DEPENDABULL BRITISH BULLDOGS
ANKC#4100185130

CHERRY EYE

This is a condition when the third eyelid protrudes like a 'cherry' in the comer of the eye.

It  is  a fairly common condition  and is found in  many  breeds of dogs.
It  is not breed specific  to  bulldog breeds  and can  be commonly   found  in  American  &     English  Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Poodles, Pekingese, Boston Terriers, Basset Hounds, Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzu’s, Dachshund’s  and  Cavalier King  Charles  Spaniels to  name  but a  few.

There is some thought that there is an environmental component to its appearance also -i.e. windy, dusty conditions.

It usually appears in dogs under one year of age.

If your dog is unfortunate enough to suffer this condition it can be easily treated surgically. Although first a trial of a cream like Amacin from the vet may make it reduce and not return.   If however the cherry eye does remain, my strong advice is to shop around and find a vet who is competent enough to do the surgery him/herself.

Some  of  them merely  refer  on  to  a  canine  eye  specialist  and  as  with  all  specialists their  fee  is  pretty  special too!

As with purchasing any dog, it is always worth considering PET INSURANCE for your new family member.
